Nissan Rogue (T33) 2021-Present Owner’s Manual & User Guide: Three-point type seat belt with retractor
Basic information
WARNING
- Every person riding in the Nissan Rogue must wear a seat belt at all times. Children should always ride in the rear in an appropriate restraint.
- Do not ride in the vehicle when the seatback is reclined.
This is dangerous because the shoulder belt will not rest properly against your body. In a collision, you may be thrown forward and suffer neck or other serious injuries.
You could also slide under the lap belt and sustain serious internal injuries.
- For maximum protection while the Nissan Rogue is moving, keep the seat upright. Sit well back with both feet on the floor and adjust the seat belt properly.
- Do not allow children to play with the seat belts. Many seating positions include an Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR). If the belt tightens around a child’s neck, serious injury or death can occur.
This can happen even when the vehicle is parked. Unbuckle the belt to free the child. If the belt cannot be unbuckled, cut it with a suitable tool such as a knife or scissors.
Fastening the seat belts
1. Adjust the seat.
2. Slowly pull the seat belt from the retractor and insert the tongue into buckle A until it clicks securely.
- The retractor locks during sudden stops or impact.
A slow pull allows freedom of movement while seated.
- If the belt does not pull from its fully retracted position, pull firmly once and release.
Then smoothly pull the belt out again.
3. Position the lap belt low and snug across the hips.
4. Pull the shoulder belt toward the retractor to remove slack.
Ensure the shoulder belt is routed over your shoulder and across your chest.
The three-point belts in the front passenger and rear seats operate in two modes:
- Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR)
- Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR)
The ELR mode allows the belt to extend and retract during normal driving. It locks during rapid deceleration or certain impacts.
The ALR mode (used for child restraints) locks the belt fully for installation. Once activated, the belt will not extend again until fully retracted and unbuckled.
The ALR mode should be used only for child restraint installation. Activating it during normal use may cause discomfort and may also affect front passenger air bag operation.
WARNING
When fastening seat belts, make sure the seatbacks are securely latched. Unlatched seatbacks may cause injury in sudden stops or collisions.
Unfastening the seat belts
To unfasten, press the button on buckle 1. The belt will automatically retract.
Checking seat belt operation
Seat belt retractors can lock in two situations:
- When the belt is pulled quickly from the retractor.
- When the vehicle decelerates rapidly.
To verify operation:
- Pull the shoulder belt sharply forward — the retractor should lock immediately.
If the retractor on your Nissan Rogue does not lock during this check, have the system inspected. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service or for additional information about proper seat belt operation.
Shoulder belt height adjustment (for front seats)
The shoulder belt anchor height should be adjusted to the position best suited for you to ensure proper protection while driving the Nissan Rogue.
To adjust, press the adjustment button, then slide the shoulder belt anchor to the desired height so the belt crosses the center of your shoulder.
The belt should stay clear of your face and neck without slipping off your shoulder.
Release the adjustment button to lock the shoulder belt anchor securely in position.
The available height adjustment range may vary slightly depending on the model and configuration of your Nissan Rogue.
WARNING
- After making an adjustment, release the button and ensure the shoulder belt anchor cannot move up or down. It must be securely locked.
- The shoulder belt height must be adjusted properly for each occupant. Incorrect alignment may reduce the effectiveness of the restraint system and increase the risk or severity of injury in an accident.
Seat belt hook
When the seat belts are not in use — especially when folding down the rear seats — secure the rear outer belts on the seat belt hooks provided.
WARNING
Before folding the rear seats back up, make sure the seat belts are not caught in the seatback latches to avoid damaging the belt webbing or affecting proper operation.
