Threshold There is a gap between angle of target and phase-control angle degree (Low compression ratio)
Diagnosis delay time 110 seconds or more

POSSIBLE CAUSE

  • VCR actuator

  • VCR control module connector

  • Foreign objects interferes with VCR actuator

FAIL-SAFE

Not applicable

DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

CHECK DTC PRIORITY

If DTC P11A9 is displayed with the following DTC, perform the confirmation procedure (trouble diagnosis) for the applicable DTC.

Is DTC P11A0, P11A1, P11A2, P11A3 P11A4, P11A6, P11A7, P11AB, P11AC, P11AD, P11AE or P11AF detected?

YES>>

Perform diagnosis of applicable.

  • DTC P11A0: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11A1: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11A2: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11A3: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11A4: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11A6: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11A7: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11AB: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11AC: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11AD: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11AE: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11AF: DTC Description.

NO>>

GO TO 2.

PRECONDITIONING

  1. Ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.

  2. Ignition switch ON.

  3. Ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.

TESTING CONDITION:

Before performing the following procedure, confirm that battery voltage is 12 V or more with ignition switch ON.

YES>>

GO TO 3.

PERFORM DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

  1. Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature and keep the engine speed at idle for 2 minutes.

  2. Check 1st trip DTC.

Is DTC P11A9 detected?

YES>>

Refer to DTC Diagnosis Procedure.

NO-1>>

To check malfunction symptom before repair: Refer to Intermittent Incident.

NO-2>>

Confirmation after repair: INSPECTION END

DTC Diagnosis Procedure

CHECK DTC PRIORITY

If DTC P11A9 is displayed with the following DTC, perform the confirmation procedure (trouble diagnosis) for the applicable DTC.

Is DTC P11A0, P11A1, P11A2, P11A3 P11A4, P11A6, P11A7, P11AB, P11AC, P11AD, P11AE or P11AF detected?

YES>>

Perform diagnosis of applicable.

  • DTC P11A3: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11A4: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11A6: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11AE: DTC Description.

  • DTC P11AF: DTC Description.

NO>>

GO TO 2.

CHECK VCR CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR

  1. Disconnect VCR control module connector.

  2. Connect VCR control module connector.

  3. Perform DTC Confirmation Procedure. Refer to DTC Description.

Is DTC detected?

YES>>

GO TO 3.

NO>>

INSPECTION END

CHECK VCR MOTOR

Refer to Component Inspection.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Check intermittent incident. Refer to Intermittent Incident.

NO>>

Replace VCR actuator. Refer to Removal and Installation.
