Lithium Ion Battery 12v

System Description

SYSTEM DIAGRAM

Component Function
12V sub battery (lithium ion battery) Refer to 12V Sub Battery (Lithium Ion Battery).
Combination Meter Receives li-ion battery error signal from 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery) through IPDM E/R via CAN communication.
IPDM E/R Transmits the li-ion battery error signal received from the 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery) to the combination meter by CAN communication.

DESCRIPTION

  • Lithium ion battery, battery management unit and relay are integrated in the 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery).

  • The 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery) communicates with the IPDM E/R by CAN communication and transmits the state of 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery), such as charged, discharged, its temperature and other state.

  • The IPDM E/R calculates target generating voltage based on charge/discharge status signal from the 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery). Refer to System Description.

  • When abnormalities are detected in the 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery), the IPDM E/R transmits the li-ion battery error signal to the combination meter.

Fail-safe

12V sub battery (lithium ion battery) performs the following fail-safe operation when detecting abnormalities in lithium ion battery 12V system.

  • 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery) stops supplying power and prohibits stop/start system.

  • Shows warning on the Nissan Ariya vehicle information display in the combination meter.

Protection Function

  • Switches the 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery) condition to limited function state (protection function mode) when the battery temperature increases.

  • The limited function state (protection function mode) limits input & output power of the 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery) to protect the battery.

  • The lithium ion battery 12V stops its function and prohibits stop/start system when the limited function (protection function mode) is applied.

SIGNAL PATH

  • The li-ion battery error signal from the 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery) is transmitted to the combination meter through the IPDM E/R.

  • The combination meter indicates li-ion battery error based on a signal from the 12V sub battery (lithium ion battery).

DISPLAY CONDITIONS

When all of the following conditions are satisfied.

  • Ignition switch ON

  • When abnormalities are detected in lithium ion battery 12V.

When the lithium ion battery 12V is normal

  • The 12 V battery is enhanced in recharging, discharging and its lifespan.

  • The 12 V battery supplies electrical power to the electrical equipment of the Nissan Ariya vehicles.

CAUTION:

When replacing 12V battery, use the dedicated battery since the enhanced features are available.

PARTS LOCATION

The 12V battery is mounted in the engine room. Refer to Component Parts Location.

Harness Connector

HARNESS CONNECTOR (TAB-LOCKING TYPE)

  • The tab-locking type connectors help prevent accidental looseness or disconnection.

  • The tab-locking type connectors are disconnected by pushing or lifting the locking tab(s). Refer to the figure below.

CAUTION:

To prevent damage to the parts, never pull the harness or wires when disconnecting the connector.

HARNESS CONNECTOR (SLIDE-LOCKING TYPE)

  • A new style slide-locking type connector is used on certain systems and components, especially those related to OBD.

  • The slide-locking type connectors help prevent incomplete locking and accidental looseness or disconnection.

  • The slide-locking type connectors are disconnected by pushing or pulling the slider. Refer to the figure below.

CAUTION:

  • To prevent damage to the parts, never pull the harness or wires when disconnecting the connector.

  • To prevent damage to the parts, be careful not to damage the connector support bracket when disconnecting the connector.

HARNESS CONNECTOR (LEVER LOCKING TYPE)

  • Lever locking type harness connectors are used on certain control units and control modules such as ECM, ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit), etc.

  • Lever locking type harness connectors are also used on super multiple junction (SMJ) connectors.

  • Always confirm the lever is fully locked in place by moving the lever as far as it will go to ensure full connection.

CAUTION:

Always confirm the lever is fully released (loosened) before attempting to disconnect or connect these connectors to avoid damage to the connector housing or terminals.
