Description

Steering wheel turning force is heavy or light.

Diagnosis Procedure

PERFORM SELF-DIAGNOSIS

CONSULT

  1. Pull the parking brake switch.

    NOTE:

    Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned ON.

  2. Ignition switch OFF.

  3. Get out of the Nissan Ariya vehicle and close all doors.

  4. Wait 65 seconds.

    NOTE:

    • Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned OFF.

    • If the rear brake calipers are hot, wait up to an hour until parking brake indicator light on the switch turns OFF. Once indicator light on the switch turns OFF, move to next step.

  5. Ignition switch ON.

  6. Perform self diagnosis for “EPS/Direct Adaptive Steering 3”.

Is a malfunctioning system displayed?

YES>>

Check the DTC. Refer to DTC Index.

NO>>

GO TO 2.

CHECK THE ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING LAMP

Check that the power steering warning lamp turns ON when ignition switch ON. Then, power steering warning lamp turns OFF after the engine is started.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 3.

NO>>

Perform trouble diagnosis of power steering warning lamp. Refer to Component Function Check.

CHECK THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE SIGNAL (1)

CONSULT

  1. Start the engine.

    CAUTION:

    Never drive the Nissan Ariya vehicle.

  2. Turn steering wheel from full left stop to full right stop.

  3. Select “EPS/Direct Adaptive Steering 3”, “Data Monitor” and “Assist level” in this order.

Does the item in “DATA MONITOR” indicate “99%”?

YES>>

GO TO 6.

NO>>

GO TO 4.

CHECK THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE SIGNAL (2)

CONSULT

Select “EPS/Direct Adaptive Steering 3”, “Data Monitor” and “Battery voltage” in this order.

Is the display value “10.5 V” or more?

YES>>

GO TO 5.

NO>>

Perform trouble diagnosis of power steering control module power supply and ground. Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.

CHECK THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE SIGNAL (3)

CONSULT

  1. Select “EPS/Direct Adaptive Steering 3”, “Data Monitor” and “Assist level” in this order

  2. Stop the EPS system until the item becomes “99%”.

    NOTE:

    While stopping the EPS system, do not turn steering wheel.

  3. Check that the symptom continues.

Does the symptom continue?

YES>>

GO TO 6.

NO>>

The assist torque decreases because of protection function. This is not malfunction. Inspection End.

CHECK THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE SIGNAL (4)

CONSULT

  1. Start the engine.

    CAUTION:

    Never drive the Nissan Ariya vehicle.

  2. Turn steering wheel from full left stop to full right stop.

  3. Select “EPS/Direct Adaptive Steering 3”, “Data Monitor” and “Steering torque” in this order.

  4. Check that the signal is within the specified value. Refer to Reference Value.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 7.

NO>>

Replace the power steering control module (steering gear assembly). Refer to Removal and Installation.

CHECK THE STEERING FORCE

Check the steering wheel turning force. Refer to Inspection.

Is the check result normal?

YES>>

Inspection End.

NO>>

It is possible that there is a mechanical malfunction. Check the steering system. Refer to Inspection.
