Description
Automatic back door open/close function does not operate using all switches.
Diagnosis Procedure
CHECK OPERATION
-
Fully close the back door manually.
-
Check auto open/close function using automatic back door switch.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>Automatic back door system is normal. Refer to Description.
NO>>GO TO 2.
CHECK DTC WITH AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR CONTROL UNIT, TCM AND ABS ACTUATOR AND ELECTRIC UNIT (CONTROL UNIT)
Check that DTC is not detected with automatic back door control unit, TCM and ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit).
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 3.
NO-1>>Refer to DTC Index. (automatic back door control unit)
NO-2>>Refer to DTC Index. (Electric shift control module)
NO-3>>Refer to DTC Index. [ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit)]
CHECK POWER SUPPLY AND GROUND CIRCUIT
Check automatic back door control unit power supply and ground circuit.
Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 4.
NO>>Repair or replace the malfunctioning parts.
CHECK “POWER BACK DOOR SETTING” IN COMBINATION METER
Check “Power back door setting” is in the ON.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 5.
NO>>Set “Power back door setting” to “ON”.
CHECK AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR OPERATION CONDITION
CONSULT
Check the “Automatic back door operation permission” in “Data monitor” mode of "AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR".
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>Refer to System Description.
NO>>GO TO 6.
CHECK Nissan Ariya Vehicle SPEED SIGNAL
CONSULT
Check the “Vehicle speed diagnosis 1” and “Nissan Ariya Vehicle speed diagnosis 2” in “Data monitor” mode of "AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR".
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 7.
NO>>Check brake control system. Refer to Work Flow.
CHECK P POSITION SIGNAL
CONSULT
Check the “P range” in “Data monitor” mode of "AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR".
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 8.
NO>>Check CVT control system. Refer to Work Flow.
REPLACE AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR CONTROL UNIT
-
Replace automatic back door control unit. Refer to Removal and Installation.
-
Confirm the operation after replacement.
Is the result normal?
YES>>Inspection End.
NO>>Check intermittent incident. Refer to Intermittent Incident.
Automatic Back Door Switch
Description
Automatic back door open/close function does not operate using automatic back door switch.
Diagnosis Procedure
CHECK AUTO OPEN/CLOSE FUNCTION
Check auto open/close function using automatic back door opener switch or Intelligent Key button operation.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 2.
NO>>Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.
CHECK AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR SWITCH
Check automatic back door switch.
Refer to Component Function Check.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 3.
NO>>Repair or replace the malfunctioning parts.
REPLACE AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR CONTROL UNIT

Replace automatic back door control unit. Refer to Removal and Installation.

Confirm the operation after replacement.
Is the result normal?
YES>>Inspection End.
NO>>Check intermittent incident. Refer to Intermittent Incident.
Automatic Back Door Lock and Close Switch
Description
Automatic back door close function does not operate using automatic back door lock and close switch.
Diagnosis Procedure
CHECK AUTO OPEN/CLOSE FUNCTION
Check auto open/close function using automatic back door switch.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 2.
NO>>Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.
CHECK INTELLIGENT KEY
For automatic back door lock and close switch cannot be used for auto close function, check the Intelligent Key is near the rear bumper.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 3.
NO>>Confirm the operation.
CHECK AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR LOCK AND CLOSE SWITCH
Check automatic back door lock and close switch. Refer to Component Function Check.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 4.
NO>>Repair or replace the malfunctioning parts.
REPLACE AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR CONTROL UNIT

Replace automatic back door control unit. Refer to Removal and Installation.

Confirm the operation after replacement.
Is the result normal?
YES>>Inspection End.

Automatic Back Door Close Switch
Description
Automatic back door open/close function does not operate using automatic back door close switch.

CHECK AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR CLOSE SWITCH
Check automatic back door close switch.
Refer to Component Function Check.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 3.
NO>>Repair or replace the malfunctioning parts.
REPLACE AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR CONTROL UNIT

Intelligent Key
Description
Automatic back door open/close function does not operate using Intelligent Key.
Diagnosis Procedure
CHECK REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY FUNCTION
Check remote keyless entry function.
Does door lock/unlock with Intelligent Key button?
YES>>GO TO 2.
NO>>Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.
CHECK AUTO OPEN/CLOSE FUNCTION
Check auto open/close function using automatic back door switch.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 3.
NO>>Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.
REPLACE INTELLIGENT KEY

Replace Intelligent Key.

Confirm the operation after replacement.
Is the result normal?
YES>>Inspection End.
NO>>GO TO 4.
REPLACE AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR CONTROL UNIT

Back Door Opener Switch
Description
Automatic back door open/close function does not operate using back door opener switch.
Diagnosis Procedure

Check auto open/close function using automatic back door switch.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 2.
NO>>Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.
CHECK BACK DOOR OPENER SWITCH
Check back door opener switch.
Refer to Component Function Check.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 3.
NO>>Repair or replace the malfunctioning parts.
REPLACE AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR CONTROL UNIT

Replace automatic back door control unit. Refer to Removal and Installation.

Confirm the operation after replacement.
Is the result normal?
YES>>Inspection End.
NO>>Check intermittent incident. Refer to Intermittent Incident.
Hands Free Sensor
Description
Automatic back door open/close function does not operate properly when using hands free sensor.
Diagnosis Procedure
CHECK OPERATION WITH PROPER KICK
Make sure that proper operating conditions have been met for hands free sensor operation. Refer to System Description. Perform kick with proper form.
Is the system operational?
YES>>Instruct customer how to kick with proper form.
NO>>GO TO 2.
CHECK OPERATION OF THE AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR WITH OTHER TRIGGERS
Check if automatic back door works with Intelligent Key, back door opener switch, and automatic back door switch.
Is the system operational?
YES>>GO TO 3.
NO>>Perform diagnosis for automatic back door system. Refer to Work Flow. GO TO 8.
CHECK Nissan Ariya Vehicle EQUIPMENT
-
Check to see if the vehicle is equipped with a trailer hitch.
-
Use EPC parts catalog to confirm that the correct hands free sensor control unit part number is installed for Nissan Ariya vehicles equipped with/without a trailer hitch.
Is the correct hands free sensor control unit installed?
YES>>GO TO 4.
NO>>Replace hands free sensor control unit. Refer to Removal and Installation. GO TO 8.
CHECK DTC WITH AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR CONTROL UNIT
Check that DTC is not detected with automatic back door control unit.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 5.
NO>>Perform trouble diagnosis relevant to DTC indicated. If DTC exists for automatic back door control unit and hands free sensor, address automatic back door control unit DTC first.
CHECK FOR WIRING OR SENSOR DAMAGE
Remove any bumper undercover, if necessary. Clean off hands free sensor assembly of dirt, dust, etc. Check entire hands free sensor assembly to see if any wiring, connectors, or sensors are damaged.
Is there any issue with wiring, connectors, or sensors?
YES>>Replace damaged wiring, connector, or sensor. GO TO 8
NO>>GO TO 6.
CHECK HANDS FREE SENSOR SIGNAL
Check hands free sensor signal. Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 7.
NO>>Replace fuse if necessary. GO TO 8.
CHECK POWER SUPPLY AND GROUND CIRCUIT
Check automatic back door control unit power supply and ground circuit. Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>Replace hands free sensor. Refer to Exploded View. GO TO 8.
NO>>Replace hands free sensor control unit. Removal and InstallationGO TO 8.
CHECK OPERATION WITH PROPER KICK

Make sure that proper operating conditions have been met for hands free sensor operation. Refer to System Description.

Perform kick with proper form.
Is the system operational?
YES>>Instruct customer how to kick with proper form.
NO>>Go back to previous step, and continue with diagnosis.
