Component Function Check

CHECK PTC HEATER OPERATION

  1. Start the engine.

  2. Operate front blower motor.

  3. Operate temperature control dial to full hot position.

  4. Check for warm air at discharge air outlet.

    NOTE:

    • Engine must be cold.

    • Battery must be charged.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Inspection End.

NO>>

Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.

Diagnosis Procedure

CHECK FUSE AND FUSIBLE LINKS

  1. Ignition switch OFF.

  2. Check that the following fuse and fusible links are not blown (open).

Is the fuse and fusible links blown (open)?

YES>>

Replace the blown (open) fuse and fusible links after repairing the affected circuit if a fuse and fusible links are blown (open).

NO>>

GO TO 2.

CHECK PTC HEATER RELAY POWER SUPPLY

  1. Remove PTC heater relay.

  2. Ignition switch ON.

  3. Check voltage between PTC heater relay 1, PTC heater relay 2, and PTC heater relay 3 harness connector and ground.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 3.

NO>>

Repair the PTC heater relay power supply circuit.

CHECK PTC HEATER RELAY CONTROL SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

  1. Ignition switch OFF.

  2. Disconnect BCM connector.

  3. Check continuity between PTC heater relay 1, PTC heater relay 2, and PTC heater relay 3 harness connector and BCM harness connector.

Repair harness or connector.

CHECK PTC HEATER POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Check continuity between PTC heater relay 1, PTC heater relay 2, and PTC heater relay 3 harness connector and PTC heater harness connector.

YES>>

GO TO 5.

NO>>

Repair harness or connector.

CHECK PTC HEATER GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN

Check continuity between PTC heater harness connector and ground.

YES>>

GO TO 6.

NO>>

Repair harness or connector.

CHECK PTC HEATER RELAY

Check PTC heater relay. Refer to Component Inspection (PTC Heater Relay).

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 7.

NO>>

Replace malfunctioning PTC heater relay.

CHECK PTC HEATER

Check PTC heater. Refer to Component Inspection (PTC Heater).

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Replace BCM. Refer to Removal and Installation.

NO>>

Replace PTC heater. Refer to Removal and Installation.

Component Inspection (PTC Heater Relay)

CHECK PTC HEATER RELAY

  1. Ignition switch OFF.

  2. Disconnect PTC heater relay connector.

  3. Check continuity between PTC heater relay 1 terminals 6 and 7 when the voltage is supplied between terminals 8 and 9.

  4. Check continuity between PTC heater relay 2 terminals 1 and 2 when the voltage is supplied between terminals 3 and 4.

  5. Check continuity between PTC heater relay 3 terminals 6 and 7 when the voltage is supplied between terminals 8 and 9.
