Exhaust gas temp sensor bank 1

(Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Low Bank 1 Sensor 5)
Diagnosis condition Ignition switch ON
Signal
Threshold An excessively low voltage from the exhaust gas temperature sensor is sent to the ECM.
Diagnosis delay time 5 seconds

POSSIBLE CAUSE

  • Exhaust gas temperature sensor

  • Harness or connectors

    (Exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit is open.)

FAIL-SAFE

Not applicable

DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

PRECONDITIONING

If DTC Confirmation Procedure has been previously conducted, always perform the following procedure before conducting the next test.

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.

  2. Turn ignition switch ON.

  3. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.

GO TO 2.

PERFORM DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

  1. Start the engine.

  2. Let engine idle for 1 minutes.

  3. Check the DTC.

Is the DTC detected?

YES>>

Proceed to DTC Diagnosis Procedure.

NO-1>>

To check malfunction symptom before repair: Refer to Intermittent Incident.

NO-2>>

Confirmation after repair: INSPECTION END

DTC Diagnosis Procedure

CHECK EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR POWER SUPPLY

  1. Ignition switch OFF.

  2. Disconnect exhaust gas temperature sensor harness connector.

  3. Ignition switch ON.

  4. Check the voltage between exhaust gas temperature sensor harness connector and ground.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 2.

NO>>

GO TO 3.

CHECK EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT

  1. Ignition switch OFF.

  2. Disconnect ECM harness connector.

  3. Check the continuity between exhaust gas temperature sensor harness connector and ECM harness connector.

  4. Also check harness for short to power.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 4.

NO>>

Repair or replace error-detected parts.

CHECK EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT

  1. Check the continuity between exhaust gas temperature sensor harness connector and ECM harness connector.

  2. Also check harness for short to ground and to power.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 4.

NO>>

Repair or replace error-detected parts.

CHECK EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Check the exhaust gas temperature sensor. Refer to Component Inspection.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Check intermittent incident. Refer to Intermittent Incident.

NO>>

Replace exhaust gas temperature sensor. Refer to Component Parts Location.
