Nissan Rogue (T33) 2021-Present Owner’s Manual & User Guide: How to use remote keyless entry function
WARNING
- Radio waves could adversely affect electric medical equipment. Those who use a pacemaker should contact the device manufacturer for possible influences before using the Intelligent Key.
- The Intelligent Key transmits radio waves when the buttons are pushed. The FAA warns that such waves may affect aircraft navigation and communication systems. Do not operate the Intelligent Key on an airplane. Make sure the buttons are not pressed accidentally during a flight.
CAUTION
- Do not allow the Intelligent Key, which contains electronic components, to come into contact with water or salt water. This could affect system function.
- Do not drop the Intelligent Key.
- Do not strike the Intelligent Key sharply against another object.
- Do not modify the Intelligent Key.
- If the Intelligent Key gets wet, wipe it completely dry immediately.
- If the outside temperature is below 14ºF (−10ºC), the Intelligent Key battery may not function properly.
- Do not leave the Intelligent Key in an area where temperatures exceed 140ºF (60ºC).
- Do not attach the Intelligent Key to a key holder that contains a magnet.
- Do not place the Intelligent Key near TVs, audio equipment, computers, cellular phones, or wireless chargers, as magnetic fields may interfere with operation.
The remote keyless entry function allows you to lock and unlock all Nissan Rogue doors using the Intelligent Key. This feature works at a distance of up to approximately 33 ft (10 m), depending on the surrounding environment.
The remote keyless entry function will not operate in the following conditions:
- When the Intelligent Key is outside the operational range.
- When the Intelligent Key battery is discharged.
The remote keyless entry function on the Nissan Rogue can also operate the vehicle alarm, providing convenient full-vehicle access and improved security.

When locking or unlocking the Nissan Rogue, the hazard indicator flashes and the horn sounds to confirm the action.
Locking doors
1. Place the ignition switch in the OFF position.
2. Carry the Intelligent Key with you.*
3. Close all doors.
4. Push the LOCK
button A on the Intelligent Key.
5. All doors and the liftgate lock instantly.
6. The hazard indicator flashes twice and the horn chirps once.
*: Doors will lock with the Intelligent Key even when the ignition switch is in the ON position.
To ensure the Nissan Rogue is secure, operate the door handles to confirm all doors are locked properly.
Unlocking doors
1. Push the UNLOCK
button B once.
2. The hazard indicator flashes once and the driver’s door unlocks.
3. Push the UNLOCK
button again within 1 minute.
4. The hazard indicator flashes again and all doors plus the liftgate unlock.
All doors will re-lock automatically within 1 minute unless:
- Any door is opened (including the liftgate).
- The ignition switch is pushed.
During this interval, pushing UNLOCK
again restarts the 1-minute timer before auto-lock activates.
NOTE: The unlocking behavior can be customized using “Selective Unlock” in the Nissan Rogue vehicle settings menu.
Opening/closing liftgate (if so equipped)
1. Press the power liftgate
button C for more than 1 second.
2. The liftgate opens automatically, and the outside chime sounds three times.
To close the liftgate, press the same
button for more than 1 second.
If the
button is pressed while the liftgate is moving, it stops immediately. Pressing the button again reverses its direction. Near the fully open position it will move downward, and near fully closed it will move upward.
Using panic alarm
If you feel threatened or need to draw attention to the Nissan Rogue:
1. Push the PANIC
button D for more than 0.5 seconds.
2. The theft warning alarm and the headlights on the Nissan Rogue remain active for 25 seconds.
3. The panic alarm stops when:
- It has run for 25 seconds, or
- Any button on the Intelligent Key is pressed.
Remote engine start (if so equipped)
The remote engine start
button E
allows you to start the engine of the Nissan Rogue from outside the vehicle for added
comfort and convenience.

Intelligent Key button operation light
The indicator light blinks when any button on the Intelligent Key is pressed. This confirms that the Intelligent Key has transmitted a signal. You may still visually or audibly verify that the Nissan Rogue has carried out the intended function.
If the light does not blink, the battery may be too weak to communicate with the vehicle. Replace the battery if needed.
Sleep mode (if so equipped)
Sleep mode temporarily disables door locking/unlocking via the request switch and prevents engine start using the Intelligent Key.
- While pressing the LOCK
button,
push the UNLOCK
button twice. - To cancel sleep mode, press any button on the Intelligent Key.
The Intelligent Key operation light illuminates briefly.
While the light is illuminated, press the LOCK
button again. The light flashes
twice, confirming that the Nissan Rogue has entered sleep mode.
Setting hazard indicator and horn mode
The Nissan Rogue arrives from the factory in Hazard Indicator + Horn mode.
In this mode:
When the LOCK
button A is pressed, the hazard indicators flash twice and the horn
chirps once.
When the UNLOCK
button B is pressed, the hazard indicators flash once.
If you prefer a quieter operation, you may switch the system to Hazard Indicator Only mode.
In Hazard Indicator mode:
When the LOCK
button is pressed, the hazard indicators flash twice.
When the UNLOCK
button is pressed, neither the horn nor the hazard indicators activate.

Switching procedure:
To switch between modes, press and hold the LOCK
(A) and UNLOCK
(B) buttons simultaneously on the Intelligent Key for more than 4 seconds.
- When Hazard Indicator mode is activated, the hazard indicators flash 3 times.
- When Hazard Indicator + Horn mode is activated, the hazard indicators flash once and the horn chirps once.

The horn operation for the Nissan Rogue can also be turned on or off in the vehicle information display.
