Component Function Check
CHECK REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER FUNCTION
CONSULT
-
Ignition switch ON.
-
Select “Rear defogger” in “Active test” mode of "BCM".
-
Touch “On”.
-
Check that the back door window glass is getting warmer.
NOTE:
When glass is hot, never start inspection until it is cool enough.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>Rear window defogger function is OK.
NO>>Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.
Diagnosis Procedure
CHECK FUSE
-
Ignition switch OFF.
-
Check that the following fuse is not blown (open) .

Is the fuse blown (open) ?
YES>>Replace the blown (open) fuse after repairing the affected circuit if a fuse is blown (open).
NO>>GO TO 2.
CHECK REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT

Start engine.
-
Check voltage between rear window defogger harness connector and ground.

Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 3.
NO>>GO TO 4.
CHECK REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER GROUND CIRCUIT

Ignition switch OFF.
-
Disconnect rear window defogger connector.
-
Check continuity between rear window defogger harness connector and ground.
Rear window defogger — Continuity Connector Terminal D525 2 Ground Yes
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 7.
NO>>Repair or replace harness.
CHECK REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER CIRCUIT 1

Ignition switch OFF.
-
Disconnect rear window defogger condenser connector and rear window defogger connector.
-
Check continuity between rear window defogger condenser harness connector and rear window defogger harness connector.
Rear window defogger condenser Rear window defogger Continuity Connector Terminal Connector Terminal D500 2 D510 1 Yes
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 5.
NO>>Repair or replace harness.
CHECK REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER CIRCUIT 2

Remove rear window defogger relay and disconnect fuse block (J/B) connector.
-
Check continuity between rear window defogger condenser harness connector and fuse block (J/B) harness connector.
Rear window defogger condenser Fuse block (J/B) Continuity Connector Terminal Connector Terminal B6 1 B28 1L Yes
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 6.
NO>>Repair or replace harness.
CHECK REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER CONDENSER
Check rear window defogger condenser. Refer to Component Inspection.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>Replace fuse block (J/B).
NO>>Replace rear window defogger condenser.
CHECK FILAMENT
Check the filament for damage or blown. Refer to Inspection.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>Inspection End.
NO>>Repair filament.

Ignition switch OFF.
-
Disconnect rear window defogger condenser connector.
-
Check continuity between rear window defogger condenser and ground part of rear window defogger condenser.

Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 2.
NO>>Replace rear window defogger condenser. Refer to Removal and Installation.

Check continuity between rear window defogger condenser terminals.
