Diagnosis condition When ignition switch is ON.
Signal (terminal) Steering torque sensor signal
Threshold When a malfunction is detected in power steering torque sensor.
Diagnosis delay time 1 second or less

POSSIBLE CAUSE

  • Harness or connector

  • Power steering torque sensor

  • Power steering control module

FAIL-SAFE

Manual steering state

DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE

PRECONDITIONING

  1. Pull the parking brake switch.

    NOTE:

    Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned ON.

  2. Ignition switch OFF.

  3. Get out of the Nissan Ariya vehicle and close all doors.

  4. Wait 65 seconds.

    NOTE:

    • Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned OFF.

    • If the rear brake calipers are hot, wait up to an hour until parking brake indicator light on the switch turns OFF. Once indicator light on the switch turns OFF, move to next step.

DTC REPRODUCTION PROCEDURE

CONSULT

  1. Start the engine.

    CAUTION:

    Never drive the Nissan Ariya vehicle.

  2. Perform self diagnosis for “EPS/Direct Adaptive Steering 3”.

Is DTC “C1604-96” detected?

YES>>

Proceed to diagnosis procedure. Refer to Diagnosis Procedure.

NO-1>>

To check malfunction symptom before repair: Refer to Intermittent Incident.

NO-2>>

Confirmation after repair: Inspection End.

Diagnosis Procedure

PERFORM SELF-DIAGNOSIS

CONSULT

  1. Ignition switch OFF to ON.

  2. Erase self diagnosis results for “EPS/Direct Adaptive Steering 3”.

  3. Pull the parking brake switch.

    NOTE:

    Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned ON.

  4. Ignition switch OFF.

  5. Get out of the Nissan Ariya vehicle and close all doors.

  6. Wait 65 seconds.

    NOTE:

    • Check to make sure that the parking brake switch indicator is turned OFF.

    • If the rear brake calipers are hot, wait up to an hour until parking brake indicator light on the switch turns OFF. Once indicator light on the switch turns OFF, move to next step.

  7. Start the engine.

    CAUTION:

    Never drive the Nissan Ariya vehicle.

  8. Perform self diagnosis for “EPS/Direct Adaptive Steering 3”.

Is DTC “C1604–96” detected?

YES>>

Replace the power steering control module (steering gear assembly). Refer to Removal and Installation.

NO>>

Check terminals and connection of each harness connector for malfunctioning conditions.
