Nissan Rogue (T33) 2021-Present Owner’s Manual & User Guide: Uniform tire quality grading

DOT (Department Of Transportation) Quality Grades: all passenger car tires, including those fitted to the Nissan Rogue, must conform to federal safety requirements in addition to these grades.

Where applicable, quality grades are found on the tire sidewall between the tread shoulder and the maximum section width.

For example:

Treadwear 200 Traction AA Temperature A

Treadwear

The treadwear grade is a comparative rating based on the wear rate of the tire when tested under controlled conditions on a specified government test course.

For example, a tire graded 150 would wear one and one-half (1 1/2) times as long on the government test course as a tire graded 100. Actual tire performance on your Nissan Rogue can differ from these values due to driving style, maintenance, road conditions, and climate.

Traction AA, A, B and C

The traction grades, from highest to lowest, are AA, A, B and C. These grades represent the tire's ability to stop on wet pavement under controlled conditions on specified test surfaces of asphalt and concrete. A tire marked C may have relatively poor traction performance.

WARNING

The traction grade is based on straight-ahead braking tests and does not include acceleration, cornering, hydroplaning or peak traction characteristics. Drivers of a Nissan Rogue should still adjust their speed and driving style to conditions.

Temperature A, B and C

The temperature grades A (highest), B, and C indicate the tire's resistance to heat build-up and its ability to dissipate heat under controlled testing on an indoor laboratory wheel.

Sustained high temperatures can cause the tire material to deteriorate and reduce tire life, while excessive heat may lead to sudden tire failure. Grade C meets the minimum performance required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 109; grades B and A represent higher levels of performance.

WARNING

The temperature grade applies to a tire that is properly inflated and not overloaded. Excessive speed, under-inflation, or overloading—alone or combined—can cause heat build-up and may lead to tire failure, affecting the safety of your Nissan Rogue.
