Diagnosis Procedure

CHECK THE BATTERY CABLE

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Check the battery cable for tightening enough.

NOTE:

Check the continuity between the battery cable and the battery terminal.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 2

NO>>

Repair or replace battery cable connection.

CHECK ECM INTERMITTENT INCIDENT

Check intermittent incident. Refer to Intermittent Incident.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 3.

NO>>

Repair or replace ECM connection.

CHECK FUSE

Check that the following fuse is not blowing.

Fuse and fusible link box 2 #100 15 A

Is the fuse blown (open)?

YES>>

Replace the fuse after repairing the applicable circuit. (If the replaced fuse is blown again, check the power supply circuit upstream of IPDM E/R or battery power supply circuit.)

NO>>

GO TO 4.

CHECK GROUND CONNECTION

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Check ground connection E9. Refer to Circuit Inspection.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 5.

NO>>

Repair or replace ground connection.

CHECK ECM GROUND CIRCUIT

  1. Disconnect ECM harness connectors.

  2. Check the continuity between ECM harness connector and ground.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 6.

NO>>

Repair or replace error-detected parts.

CHECK ECM POWER SUPPLY (MAIN)-1

  1. Reconnect ECM harness connector.

  2. Turn ignition switch ON.

  3. Check the voltage between ECM harness connector terminals.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 7.

NO>>

GO TO 8.

CHECK ECM POWER SUPPLY (MAIN)--2

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.

  2. Check the voltage between ECM harness connector terminals as per the following.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

CHECK ECM POWER SUPPLY (MAIN) CIRCUIT-1

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Disconnect ECM harness connectors.

  3. Disconnect IPDM E/R harness connector.

  4. Check the continuity between ECM harness connector and IPDM E/R harness connector.

  5. Also check harness for short to ground.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Perform the trouble diagnosis for IPDM E/R power supply circuit.

NO>>

Repair or replace error-detected parts.

CHECK ECM RELAY CONTROL SIGNAL

Check the voltage between ECM harness connector terminals as per the following.

CHECK ECM RELAY CONTROL SIGNAL CIRCUIT

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Disconnect ECM harness connector.

  3. Disconnect IPDM E/R harness connector.

  4. Check the continuity between ECM harness connector and IPDM E/R harness connector.

  5. Also check harness for short to ground and to power.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Replace IPDM E/R. Refer to Removal and Installation.

NO>>

Repair or replace error-detected parts.

CHECK IGNITION SWITCH SIGNAL

  1. Turn ignition switch ON.

  2. Check the voltage between ECM harness connector terminals.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 13.

NO>>

GO TO 12.

CHECK IGNITION SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Disconnect ECM harness connector.

  3. Disconnect IPDM E/R harness connector.

  4. Check the continuity between ECM harness connector and IPDM E/R harness connector.

  5. Also check harness for short to ground and to power.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Perform the trouble diagnosis for IPDM E/R power supply circuit.

NO>>

CHECK ECM POWER SUPPLY (BACK-UP)

Check the voltage between ECM harness connector terminals.

Perform the trouble diagnosis for battery power supply circuit.

Electric Intake Valve Timing Control Module

Diagnosis Procedure

CHECK FUSE

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Pull out 5A fuse (No. 76) from IPDM E/R.

  3. Check that 5A fuse is not blowing.

Is the fuse blown (open)?

YES>>

Replace the fuse after repairing the applicable circuit.

NO>>

GO TO 2.

CHECK FUSIBLE LINK

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Check that the following fusible link is not blowing.

    F/L-N 40A

Is the fusible link blown (open)?

YES>>

Replace the fusible link after repairing the applicable circuit.

NO>>

GO TO 3.

CHECK GROUND CONNECTION

Check ground connection E9 and E15. Refer to Ground Inspection in Circuit Inspection.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 4.

NO>>

Repair or replace error-detected parts.

CHECK ELECTRIC INTAKE VALVE TIMING CONTROL MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT

  1. Disconnect electric intake valve timing control module harness connectors.

  2. Check the continuity between electric intake valve timing control module harness connector and ground.

  3. Also check harness for short to power.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 5.

NO>>

Repair or replace error-detected parts.

CHECK ELECTRIC INTAKE VALVE TIMING CONTROL MODULE POWER SUPPLY

  1. Reconnect electric intake valve timing control module harness connectors.

  2. Check the voltage between electric intake valve timing control module harness connector terminals as follows.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 6.

NO>>

Perform trouble diagnosis for power supply circuit.

CHECK IGNITION SWITCH SIGNAL

Check the voltage between electric intake valve timing control module harness connectors as follows.

CHECK IGNITION SWITCH SIGNAL

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Disconnect electric intake valve timing control module harness connectors.

  3. Disconnect IPDM E/R harness connector.

  4. Check the continuity between IPDM E/R harness connector and electric intake valve timing control module harness connector.

  5. Also check harness for short to power and short to ground.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

Perform trouble diagnosis for power supply circuit.

NO>>

Vcr Control Module

Diagnosis Procedure

CHECK FUSE

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Pull out 5A fuse (No. 76) from IPDM E/R.

  3. Check that 5A fuse is not blowing.

Is the fuse blown (open)?

YES>>

Replace the fuse after repairing the applicable circuit.

NO>>

GO TO 2.

CHECK FUSIBLE LINK

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF.

  2. Check that the following fusible link is not blowing.

    F/L-AA 30A

Is the fusible link blown (open)?

YES>>

Replace the fusible link after repairing the applicable circuit.

NO>>

GO TO 3.

CHECK GROUND CONNECTION

Check ground connection F9. Refer to Ground Inspection in Circuit Inspection.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 4.

NO>>

Repair or replace error-detected parts.

CHECK VCR CONTROL MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT

  1. Disconnect VCR control module harness connectors.

  2. Check the continuity between VCR control module harness connector and ground.

  3. Also check harness for short to power.

Is the inspection result normal?

YES>>

GO TO 5.

NO>>

Repair or replace error-detected parts.

CHECK VCR CONTROL MODULE POWER SUPPLY

  2. Check the voltage between VCR control module harness connector terminals as follows.

Perform trouble diagnosis for power supply circuit.

  2. Disconnect VCR control module harness connectors.

  3. Disconnect IPDM E/R harness connector.

  4. Check the continuity between IPDM E/R harness connector and VCR control module harness connector.
