DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
PRECONDITIONING
NOTE:
When DTC Confirmation Procedure has been preciously conducted, always perform the following before conducting the next test.

Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
-
Turn ignition switch ON.
-
Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
>>
GO TO 2.
PERFORM DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
NOTE:
Before performing this procedure, check that the battery voltage is more than 11 V during ignition switch ON.
-
Start the engine and warm it up to the normal operating temperature.
-
Wait at least 20 seconds.
-
Check DTC.
Is DTC P023B detected?
YES>>Proceed to DTC Diagnosis Procedure.
NO-1>>To check malfunction symptom before repair: Refer to Intermittent Incident.
NO-2>>Confirmation after repair: INSPECTION END
DTC Diagnosis Procedure
COMPONENT FUNCTION CHECK
With CONSULT
-
Start the engine.
-
On CONSULT screen, select “ENGINE”>>“Active Test”>>“Charge air cooler cooling electric water pump”.
-
Check the value of charge air cooler electric water pump duty under the following conditions:
Item Condition Value Electric water pump 1 duty Normal mode 20 – 80
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>INSPECTION END
NO>>GO TO 2.
CHECK CHARGE AIR COOLER ELECTRIC WATER PUMP HARNESS CONNECTOR INSTALLATION
Check charge air cooler electric water pump harness connector installation condition visually and tectually.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 3.
NO>>Repair or replace error-detected parts.
CHECK CHARGE AIR COOLER ELECTRIC WATER PUMP POWER SUPPLY-I
-
Turn ignition switch OFF.
-
Disconnect charge air cooler electric water pump harness connector.
-
Turn ignition switch ON.
-
Check the voltage between charge air cooler electric water pump harness connector and ground.
+ − Voltage Charge air cooler electric water pump Connector Terminal E36 2 Ground Battery voltage
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 9.
NO>>GO TO 4.
CHECK CHARGE AIR COOLER ELECTRIC WATER PUMP POWER SUPPLY-II

Turn ignition switch OFF.
-
Disconnect electric water pump relay and electric purge pump relay harness connector.
-
Turn ignition switch ON.
-
Check the voltage between electric water pump relay and electric purge pump relay harness connector and ground.
+ − Voltage Electric water pump relay and electric purge pump relay Connector Terminal F103 6 Ground Battery voltage
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 7.
NO>>GO TO 6.
CHECK CHARGE AIR COOLER ELECTRIC WATER PUMP POWER SUPPLY-III
-
Turn ignition switch OFF.
-
Check the voltage between electric water pump relay and electric purge pump relay harness connector and ground.
+ − Voltage Electric water pump relay and electric purge pump relay Connector Terminal F103 7 Ground Battery voltage
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 7.
NO>>GO TO 6.
CHECK FUSE
-
Pull out 15A fuse (No. 98) from fuse.
-
Check that 15A fuse is not blowing.
Is the fuse blown (open)?
YES>>Replace the fuse after repairing the applicable circuit.
NO>>Perform the trouble diagnosis for power supply circuit.
CHECK CHARGE AIR COOLER ELECTRIC WATER PUMP POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
-
Check the continuity between electric water pump relay and electric purge pump relay and charge air cooler electric water pump harness connector.
Electric water pump relay and electric purge pump relay Charge air cooler electric water pump Continuity Connector Terminal Connector Terminal F103 6 E36 2 Existed -
Also check harness for short to power and short to ground.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 8.
NO>>Repair or replace error-detected parts.
CHECK ELECTRIC WATER PUMP RELAY AND ELECTRIC PURGE PUMP RELAY
Check electric water pump relay and electric purge pump relay. Refer to Component Inspection.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>INSPECTION END
NO>>Replace electric water pump relay.
CHECK CHARGE AIR COOLER ELECTRIC WATER PUMP GROUND CIRCUIT
-
Check the continuity between charge air cooler electric water pump harness connector and ground.
Charge air cooler electric water pump — Continuity Connector Terminal E36 4 Ground Existed -
Also check harness for short to power.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>GO TO 10.
NO>>Repair or replace error-detected parts.
CHECK CHARGE AIR COOLER ELECTRIC WATER PUMP CONTROL CIRCUIT
-
Disconnect ECM harness connector.
-
Check the continuity between ECM harness connector and charge air cooler electric water pump harness connector.

Also check harness for short to power and short to ground.
Is the inspection result normal?
YES>>Replace charge air cooler electric water pump. Refer to Removal and Installation.
NO>>Repair or replace error-detected parts.
