Nissan Rogue (T33) 2021-Present Owner’s Manual & User Guide: Electric power steering
WARNING
- If the engine is off while driving, power steering assist will stop working, and steering will require significantly more effort.
- If the electric power steering warning
light illuminates while the engine is
running, power assist will stop.
You will still be able to steer the Nissan Rogue, but steering effort will be noticeably higher.
The electric power steering system is designed to reduce steering effort during normal driving, making the Nissan Rogue easier to handle with light steering force.
When SPORT mode is selected in the Nissan Rogue, steering effort is slightly increased to provide a more engaging, sporty feel. When the steering wheel is turned repeatedly or continuously while parking or driving at very low speeds, the power assist may be reduced. This reduction helps prevent overheating of the electric power steering system and protects it from damage. During this temporary reduction, steering will feel heavier. Once the temperature decreases, full power assist returns. Avoid excessive steering inputs that could cause overheating.
You may hear a brief noise when turning the steering wheel quickly. This is normal and not a malfunction.
If the electric power steering warning light illuminates while the engine is running, it may indicate a malfunction in the electric power steering system. Have the Nissan Rogue inspected— a NISSAN dealer is recommended. When the warning light is illuminated, power assist stops, and steering effort increases. You will still maintain control of the vehicle, but turning the wheel—especially at low speeds or during sharp turns—will require more physical effort.
