Nissan Rogue (T33) 2021-Present Owner’s Manual & User Guide: Wiper and washer switch

Basic information

WARNING

In freezing temperatures, the washer solution may freeze on the windshield and limit visibility, increasing the risk of an accident. Warm the windshield with the defroster before using the washer.

CAUTION

  • Do not operate the washer continuously for more than 30 seconds.
  • Do not operate the washer if the reservoir tank is empty.
  • Do not fill the washer reservoir with full-strength washer fluid concentrate.

Some methyl alcohol–based concentrates may permanently stain the grille if spilled when filling the reservoir.

  • Pre-mix washer fluid concentrate with water according to the manufacturer’s recommendation before adding it to the reservoir. Do not use the reservoir tank to mix the concentrate with water.

If the windshield wiper movement is interrupted by snow or ice, the motor may temporarily stop to protect itself. Turn the switch OFF and clear the snow or ice from the wiper arms. After about one minute, turn the switch on again.

Windshield wiper and washer operation

Type B (if so equipped)

The windshield wiper and washer operate when the ignition switch is in the ON position. This allows consistent visibility during Nissan Rogue driving in rain or snow.

Push the lever down to operate the wiper at the following speed:

  1. Type A: AUTO — see “Rain-sensing auto wiper system (if so equipped).”
Type B: Intermittent — the intermittent speed can be adjusted by turning the knob toward A (Faster) or B (Slower). The intermittent speed also changes automatically with vehicle speed.
  2. Low — continuous low-speed operation
  3. High — continuous high-speed operation

Push the lever up 4 to perform one sweep.

Pull the lever toward you to activate the washer. The wipers will sweep several times automatically.

NOTE:

The Speed-Dependent feature (if equipped) may be disabled.

CAUTION

Do not operate the windshield wiper while the wiper arm is lifted. This may damage the arm.

Rain-sensing auto wiper system

Nissan Rogue. Wiper and washer switch

The rain-sensing auto wiper system automatically activates and adjusts wiper speed based on rainfall and vehicle speed. The rain sensor is located near the top of the windshield in the Nissan Rogue.

To enable the system, push the lever down to AUTO position 1. The wiper will sweep once with the ignition ON.

The sensitivity level can be adjusted by turning the knob toward 2 (Low) or (High):

  • High — higher sensitivity
  • Low — lower sensitivity

To turn the rain-sensing system off, push the lever up to OFF, or move it down to another position.

NOTE:

The rain sensor may be disabled.

CAUTION

Do not touch the rain sensor when the switch is in AUTO and the ignition is ON, as the wipers may activate unexpectedly.

  • The rain-sensing system is intended for rainfall use. If left in AUTO, wipers may activate when dirt, fingerprints, insects, exhaust gas, or moisture affect the sensor.
  • If the windshield has a water-repellent coating, the wiper speed may increase even with light rain.
  • Turn off the rain-sensing system before using a car wash.
  • The system may not activate if rainwater does not reach the sensor area.
  • Using genuine wiper blades is recommended to maintain proper operation of the Nissan Rogue rain-sensing system.

Rear window wiper and washer operation

WARNING

In freezing temperatures, the washer solution may freeze on the rear window and reduce visibility. Warm the glass with the defroster before using the washer.

CAUTION

  • Do not operate the washer continuously for more than 30 seconds.
  • Do not use the washer when the reservoir tank is empty.
  • Do not fill the reservoir with full-strength washer concentrate.

Some methyl alcohol–based concentrates may stain the grille permanently if spilled during filling.

  • Always pre-mix washer concentrate with water to the manufacturer’s recommended ratio before adding it to the tank.

If the rear wiper stops due to snow or ice, the system may temporarily shut off to protect the motor. Turn the switch OFF, clear ice around the wiper arm, and try again after about one minute.
