Nissan Rogue (T33) 2021-Present Owner’s Manual & User Guide: Cleaning exterior
Basic information
To keep the Nissan Rogue looking clean and well-maintained, regular care is important.
Wash the vehicle as soon as possible:
- after rain to reduce potential acid rain effects
- after driving near the coast
- whenever tree sap, bird droppings, insects or soot get on the paint
- when the surface becomes dusty or muddy
When possible, park the Nissan Rogue inside a garage or under cover.
If parking outdoors, choose shade or use a vehicle cover.
Use caution when installing or removing the body cover to avoid scratching the paint.
Washing
Remove loose dirt using a soft sponge and plenty of water. Clean the Nissan Rogue with mild automotive soap or diluted dishwashing liquid mixed with lukewarm water.
CAUTION
- Avoid spraying high-pressure water directly onto the sonar sensors on the bumper.
- Do not use pressure washers above 1,200 psi (8,274 kPa), as this could damage paint or graphics.
- Keep the spray at least 12 inches (30 cm) from the surface and use a wide-angle nozzle.
- Avoid car washes that use acidic detergents — they may damage plastic parts of the Nissan Rogue.
- Do not use harsh chemicals, strong soap, gasoline or solvents.
- Do not wash the vehicle in direct sunlight or when the body is hot to the touch.
- Avoid rough cloths that may scratch the paint.
- Do not wash the engine compartment, as water intrusion may cause malfunctions.
- Ensure the fuel-filler door is fully closed before entering an automatic wash.
Rinse the Nissan Rogue thoroughly with clean water.
Inside flanges, seams and folds on the doors, hatches and hood are especially vulnerable to road salt, so these sections of the Nissan Rogue should be cleaned regularly.
Make sure the drain openings along the lower edge of each door stay clear.
Spray water under the body and inside the wheel wells to loosen built-up dirt and wash away salt.
To avoid water spots on the paint, dry the Nissan Rogue with a damp chamois cloth.
Waxing
Regular waxing helps protect the paint on the Nissan Rogue and preserves its appearance.
Polishing is recommended from time to time to remove old wax residue and restore shine before applying a new coat.
A NISSAN dealer can help you choose an appropriate wax or polish.
- Wax the vehicle only after a complete wash. Follow the instructions on the product label.
- Do not use waxes containing abrasive compounds, cutting agents or harsh cleaners.
Machine polishing with aggressive compounds may dull the finish or cause visible swirl marks.
Removing spots
Remove tar, oil stains, industrial particles, insects and tree sap from the Nissan Rogue as soon as possible to prevent permanent marks. Special cleaners are available at NISSAN dealers or automotive stores.
Underbody
In regions where salt is used on winter roads, the underbody of the Nissan Rogue should be washed regularly.
This helps prevent corrosion caused by accumulated dirt and salt on suspension and frame components.
Before winter and again in spring, inspect the underseal and re-treat it if needed.
Glass
Use a glass cleaner to remove film or residue from windows. When the Nissan Rogue is parked in strong sunlight, a light film may form on the glass — this is normal and can be easily removed.
CAUTION
When cleaning inside the windows, avoid sharp tools, abrasive cleaners or chlorine-based disinfectants, as these may damage defroster elements or electrical traces.
Wheels
Wash the wheels whenever cleaning the Nissan Rogue to maintain a clean appearance.
- Clean the inner wheel surfaces when rotating tires or washing the underbody.
- Inspect rims for dents or corrosion, which can lead to pressure loss or sealing issues.
- NISSAN recommends waxing the wheels in winter regions to protect against salt.
CAUTION
Do not use abrasive cleaners on the wheels.
Aluminum alloy wheels
Wash alloy wheels regularly with mild soap and water, especially during winter, since salt left on the surface may cause discoloration.
CAUTION
Follow these guidelines to prevent staining or discoloration:
- Avoid cleaners containing strong acids or alkaline chemicals.
- Do not apply cleaners when the wheels are hot. They must cool to ambient temperature first.
- Rinse the wheels thoroughly within 15 minutes after applying cleaner.
Chrome parts
Clean chrome trim periodically with non-abrasive chrome polish to maintain shine.
Tire dressing
NISSAN does not recommend using tire dressings. The tires already have a protective coating, and chemical dressings may react with it and stain the paint of the Nissan Rogue.
If you still choose to apply tire dressing, follow these precautions:
- Use water-based products; oil-based dressings will dissolve factory coating more easily.
- Apply a thin layer to avoid excess material entering the tire grooves.
- Wipe away leftover dressing from the tread using a dry towel.
- Allow the dressing to dry fully according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
