Nissan Rogue (T33) 2021-Present Owner’s Manual & User Guide: Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC)

Basic information

Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) is integrated into ProPILOT Assist. Review the entire ProPILOT Assist section before using ICC to understand how the system operates on the Nissan Rogue and how its display information is presented.

The ICC system uses a forward-facing radar sensor and functions as follows:

The ICC system can apply up to 40% of the Nissan Rogue braking capacity and should only be used when traffic conditions allow speeds to remain relatively steady. The driver may override ICC at any time using the accelerator pedal.

The system will not apply braking during driver acceleration. ICC requires a lead vehicle when speeds drop below approximately 15 MPH (24 km/h).

Your Nissan Rogue must be traveling at least 20 MPH (30 km/h) to initially set the ICC system.

NOTE:

The brake lights illuminate when the ICC system applies the brakes.

Additional ICC-related features include:

System operation

The ICC system can be used in two modes:

NOTE:

Steering Assist is unavailable when conventional fixed-speed cruise control is selected.

For ICC without Steering Assist, activate ProPILOT Assist and then turn off Steering Assist via the switch or the settings menu. For conventional fixed-speed cruise control, press and hold the ProPILOT Assist switch for more than 1.5 seconds, then set your desired speed.

If no vehicle ahead is detected:

ICC maintains the set speed, operating similarly to standard cruise control when no vehicle is detected in the lane ahead.

When a previously detected vehicle is no longer ahead, the Nissan Rogue gradually accelerates to the driver-set speed.

*Design of the set display may vary depending on the model.

If a vehicle ahead is detected:

When a vehicle is detected in front, ICC smoothly decelerates the Nissan Rogue by adjusting throttle and applying brakes to match the speed of the slower vehicle while maintaining the selected distance.

*Design of the set display may vary depending on the model.

If the vehicle ahead stops:

If the detected vehicle slows to a stop, your Nissan Rogue will also slow to a standstill. While stopped, the “(RES+) Follow Vehicle Ahead” message appears on the information display.

To resume the ICC system after a stop, push up the cancel switch to the RES+ direction or lightly depress the accelerator pedal.

If your vehicle is stationary for more than approximately 3 minutes, the ICC system will switch off and the electronic parking brake will be applied.

WARNING

If a vehicle cuts in after your vehicle was stopped by the ICC system, it may not be detected depending on its position or direction. Your Nissan Rogue may approach the cut-in vehicle when restarting. Operate the brake pedal yourself to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.

Cut-in detection:

If a vehicle moves into your traveling lane near your vehicle, the ICC system may warn the driver by flashing the vehicle ahead detection indicator.

Passing a slower vehicle:

When passing a slower vehicle on the left, the ICC system will temporarily increase speed to assist with the lane change. The system will not exceed the set speed during a lane change.

Approach warning:

If your Nissan Rogue comes closer to the vehicle ahead due to rapid deceleration by that vehicle or because another vehicle cuts in, the system alerts the driver with a chime and an ICC system display warning. Reduce speed by depressing the brake pedal to maintain a safe distance if:

The warning chime may not sound in some situations when there is only a short distance between vehicles. For example:

NOTE:

The approach warning chime may sound and the system display may flash when the radar sensor detects objects at the side of the Nissan Rogue or along the roadside. This may cause the ICC system to decelerate or accelerate the vehicle. The radar sensor can detect such objects when the vehicle is driven on winding, narrow, or hilly roads or when entering or exiting a curve. In these cases, you must manually control the proper distance to the vehicle ahead. Sensor performance and sensitivity may also be affected by vehicle operation (steering input or position in the lane) or by traffic and vehicle conditions (for example, if the vehicle is driven with damage).

NOTE:

It is important to ensure that the radar sensors, cameras, and sonar sensors on your Nissan Rogue are clean before each drive. Dirty, obstructed, or damaged cameras and sensors, as well as adverse environmental conditions, can negatively affect system performance.

Warnings and malfunctions

Under the following conditions, the ICC system is automatically canceled. A chime sounds and the system cannot be set:

If these limitations are considered, all conditions above are met, and the ICC system still does not operate properly, see "Common troubleshooting guide" for a complete list of messages and conditions.

ICC system temporarily unavailable

The following are conditions in which the ICC system may be temporarily unavailable.

In these situations, the ICC system may not cancel and may not be able to maintain the selected following distance from the vehicle ahead.

Condition A:

When inclement weather (rain, fog, snow, etc.) blocks the front radar sensor, the ICC system will automatically cancel, a chime will sound, and the "Forward Driving Aids temporarily disabled Front Sensor blocked See Owner's Manual" warning will appear in the vehicle information display.

Action to take:

When the above condition is no longer present, the warning message disappears from the vehicle information display and the system will resume normal operation.

If the warning message continues to appear, have the system inspected. It is recommended to visit a NISSAN dealer for proper diagnosis and service of your Nissan Rogue.

Condition B:

When the radar sensor at the front of the vehicle becomes dirty or obstructed, the ICC system will automatically cancel.

The chime will sound and the "Forward Driving Aids temporarily disabled Front Sensor blocked See Owner's Manual" warning message will appear in the vehicle information display.

Action to take:

If this warning appears, stop your Nissan Rogue in a safe location, press the park button to engage the P (Park) position, and turn the engine off. When the radar signal is temporarily interrupted, clean the sensor area and restart the engine. If the warning continues to appear, the system requires inspection. It is recommended to visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.

Condition C:

When driving in areas with limited roadside structures or unusual surroundings (such as long bridges, open deserts, snow fields, or alongside long walls), the system may display the "Forward Driving Aids temporarily disabled Front Sensor blocked See Owner's Manual" message and sound a chime.

Action to take:

When these driving conditions pass, turn the system back on to resume normal operation of your Nissan Rogue.

ICC system malfunction

If the ICC system malfunctions, it will automatically turn off, emit a chime, illuminate the orange speed control status warning, and display the "Malfunction See Owner's Manual" message in the vehicle information display.

Action to take:

If the warning illuminates, stop the vehicle in a safe area. Turn the engine off, restart the engine, and attempt to set the ICC system again.

If the ICC system cannot be set or the warning remains displayed, a malfunction may be present.

Although normal driving remains possible, the ICC system in the Nissan Rogue should be inspected. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
